People around the world are doing interesting things. Thought of sharing this with you as the chances that you may have heard of this may be really slim. Am subscribed to TechCrunch on Twitter, so that's my source of information and this is not a review post.
Ok, so here's the list
Huohua (means Spark in Chinese) :- Finding activity-partners on-the-fly
Lets say you want to do some adventure sports, your friends are busy and you don't mind making new friends - just type your activity, say "Para Gliding". Huohua will find a Instant Circle for you which will consist of people in your area wanting to do Para Gliding. Get in touch and do the adventure. Interesting isn't it?
The only thing is, you will have to wait until its available. Check out this video on Huohua on TechCrunch TV.
Gulu :- Event planning on the fly
The moment you get an idea and want to do it with a set of your friends, you get in to Gulu and broadcast the idea. Your friends tap the "Me too" button and all of you instantly get wrangled into a chat and plan the event. If none of your friends respond with a "Me too", the idea is stored in your wishlist to be taken up later. Gulu calls it "intention broadcasting". Check out this Gulu video.
Richi :- All Loyalty points in one big bucket
Richi is an open virtual currency exchange platform that allows anyone to exchange their points (credit card loyalty programs, in-store value cards, frequent flyer miles, etc) of any form into something they can use immediately. So you have Flying miles available but have no travel plans and want to use those points to get a discount on crockery purchase using your credit card, you can do it using Richi.
The business model is experimental and they are trying it out in Taiwan before they launch it out. I wish them success and can't wait to see it being successful in all parts of the world. May be we are gearing up to a Back to the Future era of the Barter System.
UPcload :- Online shopping for Clothes
How many of us have ever shopped online for clothes? Me, never. Why? Simply because what's the guarantee that the clothes that you see online will fit you. UPcload aims to solve exactly this problem. UPcload uses your Webcam and uses its software to calibrate your body. Based on that they can suggest a catalog which can suit you. And whats the guarantee that the calibration wont go wrong? - Well, no guarantees, just yet, but its vastly improving in the fidelity of calibration results. Wonder what they are doing to get the calibration right? Check out the video on UPcload.
They say they use calibration to find clothes that can match you. I would suggest if they have profiled you, then might as well use that data to tailor-make clothes for you. Online Tailoring - I would say. And if that becomes a huge success. then it will be time to change the old proverb of A stitch in time saves nine to A stitch in time earns nine (orders)
